Griffin Canning for the Angels and Chris Bassitt for the Blue Jays. Two pitchers that we are very familiar with. Bassitt is not the announced starter, but he is next up in the rotation for the Blue Jays, unless they decide to play a bullpen game which could make this one even tastier. 

Let’s start with Griffin Canning - in 25 starts he is 4-11 with a 5.41 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP and his last time out against the Braves he was slugged. He went 4.1 innings allowing 7 runs on 8 hits, 2 home runs, 1 walk, and 3 K’s. Canning has had an issue with the long ball this season allowing 24 home runs in 25 starts, including 3 in his last 3 starts and in the month of July, he allowed a home run in every start. Against the Jays in 47 ABs they hit him at .234 with 3 home runs and a .294 OBP. Not the sexiest play when looking at the bat vs. pitch stats, but recent Canning starts paint a clearer picture. 

Over to the probable Blue Jays starter in Chris Bassitt. In 25 starts he is 9-12 on the season with a 4.34 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. He, like Canning, has been blasted in his recent starts, with his last start coming against the Cubs where he went 5.0 allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, 1 home run, 2 walks, and 5 K’s. Bassitt has allowed 4 home runs in his last 3 starts and overall 16 in his 25 starts.

The Angels over their last 10 games, have left much to be desired. Going just 3-7 over their last 10 and hitting just .197. They are coming off 4 tough series' losses in a row following their stunner in NY at the beginning of the month. They faced this Blue Jays team in LA on the 12th for a 3-game set where the Angels were held down pretty tightly by some decent Jays starting pitching. Think they are able to get to Bassitt if he starts or a Jays bullpen that is among the worst in the league. As for the Jays, over their last 10 they are hitting .239 and have a 5-5 record scoring 51 runs on 83 hits. Think the Jays can get to Canning here today and continue some offensive explosion from a night ago that did not result in a Jays W.
