8/2 Milwaukee Brewers @ Washington Nationals 6:45pm EST
Over 8.5 -145 (1.5u)
Headed to the Nation's Capital for Game 1 of this 3-game set between the Brewers and Nationals. Frankie Montas is a Brewer now and he just got hit hard against the Nats on July 19th when he was still on the Cincinnati Reds. In 4.2 innings, he allowed 7 runs on 6 hits, 2 homers, 3 walks. This will be Montas' first start as a Brewer this season. As a Red, Montas made 19 starts and held a 4-8 record with a 5.01 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP in 93.1 innings. He has allowed 14 home runs in his 19 starts this season and has allowed 4 in his past 3 games, with 6 home runs being launched in July. His last start came against the Braves on July 24th where he went 4.1 innings allowing 4 runs on 10 hits, 3 walks, and 6 K's. He then faced the Nationals as we have already mentioned, being dinged up for 7 runs in 4.2. Against the Rockies on July 10th, Montas went 7.0 innings allowing 5 runs on 8 hits, 2 home runs, 2 walks, and 7 K's. Even though Montas switched jerseys we still expect the same performances out of him here against a familiar opponent. The Nationals are hitting Montas at .290 over 31 ABs with a .312 OBP.
As for Jake Irvin, he just got beat down against the Brewers on July 14th where he went 4.0 allowing 7 runs on 9 hits 2, home runs, 3 walks. He makes his 23rd start in a Nationals uniform this season as he has an 8-8 record with a 3.44 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 128.1 innings. His last start came on July 27th against the Cardinals where he went 5.1 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, 1 home run, 1 walk, and 5 K's. Against the Reds on July 21st, Irvin went 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, 2 home runs, 0 walks, and 7 K's. Then he played the Brewers where we mentioned him exploding and being tagged for 7 runs on 9 hits in 4.0 innings. The Brewers are hitting Irvin at .317 over 41 ABs with a .404 OBP.
Over the last 10 games, the Nationals have hit .253 and have a collective ERA of 6.72. They have been outscored by opponents by 20 runs. As for the Brewers, they are hitting .248 over their last 10 and have been outscored by 6 runs. With both teams able to put up runs and some starting pitching that is familiar with the other team. This one could spell runs. Take the over here in the Nation's Capital as we see both offenses getting to Irvin and Montas early setting up for a long bullpen game.
